Kushaqua-Mud Pond Rd /
One of my favorite rides that starts at Loon Lake and rides down into Onchiota “on-shy-ote-ah” passing Mud Pond and Kushaqua (“kusha - kwa” ) ponds, hence the name!
It’s a “road” but class X I think, so mostly gravel, a few forgotten tarmac sections, broken down bridge and great fun all around.
You can extend either side as well. Going east on CR-26 and Thatherville rd, going West/South towards Franklin Falls.
Franklin Falls, Union Pond
Take advantage of the county roads around these two lakes for some gorgeous views and challenging twisties.
Short Treats
Terry Mountain has state access roads off Mud-Pond Rd. (not same as kushaqua-mud pond rd!)
Strackville Rd is another “road” that isn’t. Depending on the season your slogging through mud, bouncing over river rocks, or shooting through smooth gravel.
Thrall Damn is a small park with great hill climbs and surrounded by gravel roads and intersected by wicked long powerlines access rd.
Class 4 Roads
One trick for any region is to start with some seasonal roads. Here’s the list for “Region 7” which is northmost.
- WOLF POND RD
Awesome, awesome ride. It’s got a great mountain view for one section, lots of connectors off and plenty of mud, sand, and rocks to keep you on your toes..literally.

Great access to off-beaten parks, well maintained gravel road with a few hot sections of tarmac.
