I was walking out the door in my motorcycle gear and my wife asked “Aren’t you going to be hot in that?” And I was, it was 90 degrees and my jacket breathes as well as saran-wrap.

But a safe motorcycle rider knows – ATGATT – what is a rider to do when the temps hit 90 or higher and don’t want to act like a SQUID?

I was talking with friends at work how they deal with summer heat and safety gear. I was pleased that only 1 of about 12 folks in the discussion skipped their jacket. A few skipped the ride, but most had mesh jackets.

I ordered one that was on sale 40% off, but I chose it because it stil has CE armor in shoulders, elbows and back.

Anyway I’m just excited to have something lighter than my current, which aside from being heavy duty nylon throughout, was on the cheaper side to begin with.

Take the poll, what’s your approach?

Do you have a "summer" jacket?

Yes
No, wear an all-season, or dont ride.
No, skip the jacket if too hot

I usually wear something, not big on flashy gear, but it’s usually a leather jacket of unknown brand- was free at a yard sale. But this reminded me of a ride a few years ago. The inlaws live in Canada. I hopped on the trusty KZ, and went out rt 145 to rt 30, north thru Amsterdam, past sacandaga, long lake, tupper, saranac, clear up to the inlaws one hot sunny day with just jeans and a black t shirt. Gloriously warm, dangerous ride!

I’ve got a Joe Rocket Phoenix Ion that I wear almost year round. It has a waterproof and a thermal insert, and I bought it a size up so I can fit a sweatshirt or two under it in spring and fall.

      4 years later

I returned that sedici because the fit was terrible. I ended up grabbing a Rev’it Air on sale when they released their new model that year. I frickin love it. No insert, but good coverage and protection in spots that matter. Like NightmareMoonMoon I just throw a hoody under it for cooler rides. I still have my thicker Firstgear but never really wear it. image of motorcycle jackets hanging in garage
